Since its launch, Threads has had some ups and downs. Data has shown that the number of users since the app’s launch has decreased. However, due to some recent updates, we don’t have to write off Threads just yet.
The newest update to the platform has been the inclusion of a ‘follows’ tab. This tab will make it a lot easier for users to have a look at who is following them. In doing so, users can tailor their content to better suit their audience if they wish. Meta has also included a follow button for ease of use. The way a private account can approve a follower has also changed.
Another update is the translate button. This button will allow users to be able to translate posts in languages other than their own. This opens up more international followings and discourse.
The updates continue with the addition of a ‘reposts’ tab, which allows users to view the Threads they have reposted. You can also share Threads via Instagram DMs now, as research has shown more shares and interactions with other users happen in DMs than in IG stories. It is also now much easier to mention another account in your Thread due to the addition of a ‘mention’ button on the user’s profile.
Besides these updates, an IOS update has also been done. This will tackle software bugs and improve loading times.
There are talks of further updates, including changing the feed to be in chronological order, the ability to search for content using hashtags, and a web version of the app. I expect these updates will roll out in batches over the next few weeks or months, so stay tuned and see if Threads has what it takes to overpower the new Twitter rebranded platform ‘X’.
