Working for yourself can be one of the most rewarding and challenging things you can do. Since Covid we’ve seen a massive increase in the number of new businesses that have started. Many are side hustles gone full time, others want more freedom and flexibility to work from home or on their own terms and when I started Creative Little Soul 10 years ago now, the main reason was so I had the freedom to work around a chronic illness and loads of Dr’s appointments without the shame and guilt that come from working full time. But why do people start their own businesses and is going solo right for you? Here are a few common motivations.
- Independence and Autonomy: Many individuals desire the freedom to be their own boss, set their own schedule, and make decisions without external constraints. Starting a business allows them to have more control over their work and professional life.

- Flexibility and Work-Life Balance: Entrepreneurship offers the possibility of designing a flexible schedule that accommodates personal and family needs. Business owners can create a work-life balance that suits them, although it often requires significant dedication and hard work in the initial stages.
- Opportunity for Innovation and Creativity: Some people start their own businesses to bring new ideas, products, or services to the market. Entrepreneurship allows for the exploration of innovative concepts and the ability to make a unique impact in their industry.
- Personal Growth and Development: Running a business presents numerous challenges and opportunities for personal growth. Entrepreneurs can develop their leadership skills, learn from their mistakes, and gain valuable experience that can benefit them in various aspects of life.
