Space NYD2020- A New Era

As many of you are now aware, good friend of mine Paul Strange passed away a few weeks ago. Paul was not only a great friend to me but a mentor, motivator, business coach and all round legend.  He adored his fur baby Hamish who you would have seen popping up like a cute little Ewok all over my socials.  My scruffy little fur buddy who loved belly rubs and pizza (Hamish that is…I can’t confirm that about Paul). Hamish, I hope you’re both reunited now and are hanging out again; as he bloody loved you!!

No words I pen can ever truly express what Paul meant to me, others or the huge impact he had on the Sydney House & Techno/ Entertainment scene within Australia and abroad. If you ever went to a party I was a part of in Sydney, chances are Paul was likely behind it in some way too!

Paul’s famed and beloved Space Ibiza New Year’s Day parties are the stuff of legend around these parts and New Year’s Day 2020 was to be Paul’s 11th year with the brand. The white isle was a special place for Paul and I recall him telling me fondly of the first time he went there as a young Strange – on his Mother’s recommendation. He had sustained an injury that prevented him from pursuing a professional career as a Football player (or soccer as we call it) and needed a distraction.

Falling in love with the music, the party, the hustle, vibrancy and energy of the island, it was there  Paul found his “why” and what he so importantly strived to create for others at his own events and parties. I think it’s safe to say, he was the best bloody ambassador for Ibiza; in music in and in general. An advocate for fostering and creating a space at his parties  many could connect and come together. Like minded individuals coming together, loads probably strangers at the start of the day who are probably still long term friends  today. Paul was not only huge about touring established awesome acts, but such cared and was a great advocate for giving not so known/ often just starting DJ’s a chance too.

While there was talk as to whether or not this New Year’s Day party would proceed,  after consulting with his family and entrusted loved ones, it was clear that Paul loved and lived for his community, the experience and the music and would have insisted that his beloved event continue (Legit can hear him saying to me and others “THIS IS SPARTA” or cheering us on with his famous and favourite Braveheart quotes!). I know for certain; he’d be the first one to put his hand up to help anyone, and that he did often that.

So what are the details of this event, and how can you get involved and show your solidarity? From the Space Team and Paul himself, here are the detail on this new era and innovative event:

“As we enter A NEW ERA, which will not only bring in a New Year but also a new decade we cannot think of a better to celebrate than with Space… Last year’s Sold Out show featuring Carl Cox was next level and we look forward to continuing on from there for #11 by providing yet another belter of a party,
