Update your LinkedIn Profile
Almost 740m members are on LinkedIn and 55m+ companies are represented on the platform. Update your LinkedIn profile and show the world how amazing you are. Your future employers can and will be looking at your LinkedIn profile. Make sure it’s polished.
Do’s and don’ts
- Do update your LinkedIn bio – this should be your no.1 priority.
- Don’t forget to check for typos.
- Do update your profile to include your recent employment
- Don’t waffle. Keep your bioconcise.
- Do use an up-to-date photograph of yourself on your LinkedIn profile
- Don’t forget to use a professional headline
- Do ask your previous work connections for a LinkedIn “recommendation”
- Don’t share negative experiences you’ve had with past employers, organisations or managers
- Do start publishing meaningful content to gain more visibility
- Don’t treat LinkedIn like you do other social platforms. LinkedIn should not be used to discuss what’s for dinner or your political views. Your LinkedIn account is your professional bio.
Refresh your Resume
When was the last time you updated your resume? Resume formats look a lot different now to what they did 5-10 years ago. An up-to-date resume is vital, but if you’re not sure where to begin, start by implementing the following:
Do’s and don’ts
- Do keep your CV concise. Two pages should be your maximum.
- Don’t list your first jobs out of high school.
- Do include your contact details on your resume: name, email address, home city and phone number.
- Don’t include your DOB. This is an outdated practice and no longer needed on CVs.
- Do list the skills and experiences applicable to your industry.
- Don’t include a headshot on your resume. Save that for LinkedIn.
- Do include relevant professional courses and certifications you have completed that are relevant to your industry.
- Don’t list your hobbies.
- Do add educationalqualifications that are relevant to the jobs you wish to apply for.
- Don’t include your final grade points.
