Q&A with Creative Little Soul’s Digital Marketing Coordinator Michael Vesotsky

Chrissy and the Creative Little Soul team are heading full-force into the festive season at CLS HQ, as we provide business support and creative services for our hospitality clients in the lead up to Christmas and beyond.

As such, we are delighted to welcome our newest CLS crew member Michael Vesotsky, who will be taking digital reins during our busiest time of the year.

Hello Michael and welcome to the team. Can you tell us about your role at Creative Little Soul (CLS)?

I am taking on an all-rounder position with the team. I’ll be helping out with design, marketing, and web work whenever someone needs me to help lighten the load.

What did you do prior to joining the CLS team?

Before I joined CLS, I was getting back into web design and up-skilling in my free time. Before the pandemic I was working as a cook at a Japanese restaurant.

Is digital marketing a career path you’ve fallen into?

Well, I’ve always known I wanted to do something in the this space, but I went a very roundabout way to get here. I worked in digital previously, but since then worked in government agencies, kitchens, and starting my own business before coming back to digital marketing.

What does your average CLS working day look like?

I’ll be whipping up drafts for social media and emails, designing banners and squares to use in our posts, and looking ahead to what events are coming up that we need to prepare for. Aside from that, I’m always looking out for anyone that is too busy and needs my help.

What do you love most about working in digital marketing?

I think it’s great (and kind of ironic) that using social media is my job, instead of being the thing distracting me from my job!

Do you have a favourite social media platform?

I enjoy social media, and it’s made it much easier to get through these current times when you can’t see people in person as much. Though I still think it’s easy to go overboard on your use of it. Reddit is probably what I use the most; being able to cherry pick the exact topics I want to appear in my feed makes it super appealing (and addictive).

What makes a great website, not just a good one?

To me, a great website goes beyond simply fulfilling some basic purpose. A great website is something that could be more described as an interactive experience. These days a website can be made so much more interesting than just text on a page, so a truly great website should strive to be something that users find genuinely fun or enjoyable to interact with.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

My hobbies outside of work cover a pretty wide spectrum. On one hand you can find me outside either rock climbing or swimming, but I also spend just as much time inside playing videogames and watching anime.

What are you watching right now?

I’ve been slowly watching The Sopranos for a while now, and am nearing the last season of that. It’s been a great ride. I also just finished re-watching Haikyuu to catch my partner up so we can start watching the new seasons. Oh, and The Lord of the Rings 4k remaster is finally releasing soon and I’m extremely excited for that!

Any advice you might give to others who might be considering a career in digital marketing?

Definitely utilise the virtually infinite amount of resources available on the internet. Make sure you are finding relevant and up-to-date info as things can change fast in this space. Don’t be afraid to jump into it and get some real-world practice. It’s easy and usually free to set up social media pages, so there’s no excuse for having 0 experience. Having personal projects to show can make a big difference when you’re looking for work.

Thank you Michael, we are delighted to welcome you on board the CLS sleigh. Now, have you met the rest of the team?
