Joining us as our Marketing Assistant, Carolina brings creativity, enthusiasm, and a fresh perspective to the team. What is your role at Creative Little Soul?
Marketing Assistant
What was your first paying job, and what did it teach you?
My first ever paying job was when I had just finished high school. I was 17 years old and worked at my stepfather’s coffee business, where I helped with admin, sales and reception. It was my first corporate job and it taught me a lot about structure and discipline. Being a family business, I was also expected to set an example for the other employees, which was a great lesson to learn so early on.
What tertiary/vocational education have you completed?
I recently completed a Bachelor of Entertainment Business Management at JMC Academy, after previously completing a Diploma and Advanced Diploma at TAFE.
Where did you work before landing your job at CLS?
Before joining CLS, I worked in a hairdressing salon on the North Shore for the past five years. I left in late March to pursue a career transition into entertainment. While applying for jobs, I was also looking after my private hair clients and teaching pottery wheel throwing classes.
What is your favourite social media platform and why?
Definitely Instagram. I love how it has so many different functionalities—you can message people, watch Reels, discover new content and keep up with friends, all in one place. It is the platform that I use the most at the moment.
What are some of your favourite things to do outside of work?
I’ve been obsessed with wheel throwing over the past few months, so that’s where most of my free time goes! When I’m not in the studio, I love spending time restoring the garden bed we have in our building, heading to the beach with my partner and friends, and hanging out with my pets at home while reading a book in the sun. All of the above is obviously done with the perfect playlist.
Where do you go looking for inspiration?
I definitely find a lot of inspiration in nature. I love going on long walks with my dog Luna, and I’m always fascinated by the different shapes, sizes and colours nature has to offer. I love finding ways to bring those little details back into my work, whether that’s through textures, colours or small creative refinements.
What do you do to stay motivated at work? Do you have any productivity hacks you can share with us?
As an ADHD girly, staying motivated can definitely be a challenge. I rely a lot on visual tracking tools that help me break projects down into smaller tasks. During uni, I loved using platforms like Monday.com because they kept everything organised in a way that actually felt motivating.
What’s the most memorable event you’ve ever attended? What made it so special?
The most memorable event I’ve ever attended was a Criolo concert at the Roundhouse. He’s a Brazilian rapper and one of my all-time favourite artists, who was touring Australia in early 2020. I never imagined I’d see him live for the first time on the other side of the world. It also happened to be the last event I attended before COVID,with the rest of his tour being cancelled last minute, which makes it even more memorable.
What upcoming events are you most excited for this year? What are you looking forward to most about it?
I’m super excited about Spilt Milk later this year. RAYE is part of the line-up and she’s one of my favourite artists, so I can’t wait to finally see her live. I’m also really looking forward to being back at a music festival—I haven’t been to one since working in Lost Paradise as a bar staff in 2018
If you could organise your dream event, what would it be, and who would you invite?
My dream event would be a warehouse-style art exhibition with live music, cocktail food and performative dance happening throughout the space. If I could dream big, my line-up would include Luedji Luna, Sade and Lauryn Hill.
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
“There is no rock in your path that you can’t move.” My mum told me that when I was questioning just about every decision in my life after moving overseas, and it’s something I’ve carried with me ever since.
At CLS we are very focused on self-care. Can you share with us some of the things you do to look after yourself that keep you in a good place to take on the challenges of daily life?
I have a private yoga class once a week that’s completely non-negotiable for me. Exercise has never come naturally, and consistency is something I’ve always had to work on. Having a teacher from back home has helped me stay committed. Yoga brings me back into my body and gives me an hour where I can simply be present and switch my mind off from everything else.
What are you most excited about with your new role at CLS?
I’m most excited about working alongside such a powerhouse team of women and having the opportunity to exchange creative ideas every day. For me, being surrounded by inspiring people is one of the most important parts of a workplace. When working on personal projects, I naturally gravitated towards the areas of marketing that interested me most, so I’m really excited to broaden my knowledge and learn more about all the different sides of the industry.
