With our ever-expanding technological world, video content is the new way to grab attention. This may not come as a shock, but if you are not utilising the tool that is video marketing, you are going to get left behind! But fear not—if you are a video content amateur, I am going to walk you through some benefits of video marketing, tips for creating high-quality videos, and how to promote your videos on social media and other platforms.

What are the benefits of video marketing?

There are some very simple answers to this question. To begin with, video marketing is almost always more engaging than written or still image content. Videos deliver information more memorably and can be rewatched, meaning that people will stay on your page longer and even keep coming back to watch the video. Video content also sees more shares than written or image content, meaning more eyes on your business and increased reach and ROI. Pages with video content also see better conversion rates as video content is more trustworthy and enticing. There is also the chance for your video content to achieve virality, in which case your business or page can become popular overnight (this is rare but does happen).

How do I create high quality videos?

Now, I know some of you reading will be thinking this exact question, and luckily, you don’t need to have any real experience making videos to be able to do what I will say next. Consistency is the key to getting your video content to look clean and high-end without all the fancy equipment. Start by mapping out your video idea; having a shot plan is an excellent way to ensure you get all the content you need so that nothing is missing when it comes time to edit. You can go as far as creating a storyboard if you would like, but I’ll leave that up to you. You should also consider the style of video you want to make. Do you want it to be long shots with elegant panning or quick-form content with lots of cuts? Knowing this before you take your videos is helpful as it will determine the length of your raw footage and your camera positioning. It is also a good idea to do a few takes and change things slightly to have some wiggle room when editing.

For quick-form content, having your camera position remain consistent will help your video look cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing. Consistent frame orientation is also important for this kind of content. Don’t film half of your video in landscape and the rest in portrait—it will end up looking choppy and juvenile.

For longer-form content, you may choose to keep your camera in the same place, but after a few minutes, your audience will become bored. Changing up the camera angle will keep things interesting, and if you’re feeling confident, you can add some non-static camera action, e.g., panning and zooming.

No matter what kind of content you are filming, you always want to have a high-quality camera (most smartphones are pretty good these days),in-focuss video, no weird reflections visible(i.e.,e things you don’t want your audience to se)e, good lighting (natural is usually best, but well-balanced indoor is fine too,) and good audio quality.

How do I promote my videos on social media?

Hashtags and influencers are about to be your video contents best friend! Hashtags are important when uploading video content, no matter which platforms you post on. You always want to hashtag whatever is in the video and be shameless. Do as much as you can to get that SEO fired up. You can reach out to influencers and offer to pay them or send them free products so they can post about your products/brand on their page, which will get more eyes on your brand. If you aren’t quite there yet, you can try simpler methods such as posting at the right time of day, i.e when people are most likely to be on the internet. Utilising trending audio on TikTok is another way to increase your reach. Asking your friends/family to reshare your video marketing to their pages is always an option, and so is paying to boost your video on Meta. Boosting means that Meta will show your video to a broader audience than your own at a better rate than it would organically.
